At Ivy Medical, we are dedicated to promoting innovation at every age. Inspired by Professor Dr. Paul Iske’s research on creativity and innovation, we are excited to participate in this year’sAdoptIDeeprogram, bringing the boundless creativity of elementary school students into our innovative processes.Dr. Iske’s findings highlight that young children possess an exceptional capacity for creativity, marked by endless enthusiasm and curiosity. In contrast, adults often experience what Dr. Iske terms “Terminal Seriousness,” a state where creativity is stifled by rigid thinking. We see the immense value in harnessing the fresh, unbounded perspectives of youth to challenge and expand our world. This past week, we welcomed the young consultants from grades 6 through 8 ofOBS De Pettefletto our office. They learned about the Ivy Duo+, explored our facilities, and took on the task of reimagining infusion therapy for children to make it more enjoyable and less intimidating. They left with a 3D-printed mini model of our Ivy Duo+ and a mission to innovate. We look forward to the original ideas these bright young minds will bring forward. A special thanks to teacher Sanne Meendering and all the wonderful students from OBS De Petteflet for joining us in this exciting initiative. Stay tuned for what promises to be valuable insights into making medical treatments friendlier for our youngest patients.#AdoptIDee #OBSDePetteflet #IvyMedical #InnovationAtEveryAge #CreativityInYouth #TerminalSeriousness #FutureInnovators #MedicalInnovation #PediatricCare #InfusionInnovation #KidFriendlyTherapy #GentleCare

White Coat ✅TBH, y’all, this white coat comes with mixed emotions. The White Coat Ceremony in medical education marks the transition from the student moving beyond the basic sciences into the clinical sciences portion of their education which is where all the fun happens. Whereas I appreciate the recognition of all of our hard work, I also recognize that this white coat historically and even presently has caused grievous harm. The entire field of gynecology was started off the backs of black women literally being tourted in the name of scientific/medical discovery. This is one of the most glaring examples. These harms are still being perpetuated to this day with the belief that somehow the melanin that makes their skin darker causes them to experience less pain than their white counterparts. This is patently false and 100% racist. It’s also anti-scientific which is fascinating for a profession priding itself on being evidence-based. Beyond this, the white coat has been used for centuries to enforce a false power dynamic between Physicians & patients; scientific evidence shows that some patients experience elevated BP, a racing heart, and overall fear in the presence of a Doctor wearing a white coat which has been dubbed “White Coat Syndrome”. Why is it that if we know scientifically that this causes SUFFERING in patients do we continue to do this? Where is the ethic of, “FIRST, do not harm?” Where is the HEALING? This white coat unfortunately is a representation of much more suffering than it is healing which is exactly why I won’t be wearing it unless I absolutely need to for my own safety/protection with various procedures of which I would inform the patient of before hand. Long story short, this white coat really is not a point of pride and I hesitated to even post this picture of me in it because of these facts but I hope if anything this brings awareness, conversation, and reflection of everyone involved in healthcare. As alway, let’s BE better! #blacklivesmattertoo #futuredoctor #lgbtqiaplus #healthequity #physicianhealthyself #medicalschool #naturopathicdoctor #whitecoat #publichealth #ahimsa

Today is World Dense Breast Day! The second annual #WorldDenseBreastDay is taking place today, September 27, 2023. It follows news of the FDA’s new “dense breast” reporting requirement going into effect September 2024. Other countries are following suit, and the European Society of Breast Imaging is now recommending that European women also be informed about their breast density. The 24-hour education marathon is sponsored by DenseBreast-info.org and is now on the National Day Calendar. The purpose of this worldwide one-day education blitz is to raise awareness about the screening and risk implications of dense breasts and share medically-sourced educational resources. Many women will hear the term “dense breasts” for the first time and be turning to social media asking, “What are dense breasts? What does it mean? What should I do?” The second annual education marathon kicked off at midnight and will run for the next 24 hours. We already have worldwide participation! Press Release: https://lnkd.in/ggZUX-Cq

The medical provider shortage affects all areas and specialties across the country, with some hit harder than others. Kentucky, in particular, has made strides in addressing this issue by increasing the number of medical school graduates. However, funding problems continue to make this a difficult task. With an estimated shortage of 124,000 medical providers by 2034, action needs to be taken to ensure access to quality healthcare for all. #healthcare #medicalshortage #Kentucky With the Specialist combines artificial intelligence with a board certified neurologist to help increase healthcare equity across the country. People with neurological symptoms live not only in big cities, but also rural towns where neurological specialists may be lacking. #withthespecialist #neurology #artificialintelligenceinhealthcarehttps://lnkd.in/ghYXMG6Fhttps://lnkd.in/gExrwg2P

Really cool article to check out featuring Alton R. Johnson Jr., DPM, DABPM, FACPM, FASPS, CWSP new device & program on using AI to help teach individuals how to perform a diabetic foot examination. Dr. Johnson explains how this could help identify high risk patients that are not able to get to clinics regularly and see their primary doctors. Anything involving a proactive & preventive approach is something I can get behind, especially for the growing diabetic population. Time is of the essence⏰Keep paving the way, Dr. Johnson!!
