The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team has concluded their fall season with a thrilling finish at the Navy Invitational. A weekend of intense competition showcased the team's talent and determination.
Hector Fullone and Jakob Gaudreau Barnes emerged victorious on Sunday, defeating the host Midshipmen's duo, Kai Edwards and Daniel Seo, in a nail-biting tiebreaker. This win capped off an impressive weekend for the team, with Othman Bezzaz and Ernesto Ruy also making a strong showing by reaching the quarterfinals of the ITA East Sectional Doubles Championship.
Head coach Jeff Puhan couldn't hide his pride, especially after Ernesto and Othman took down the 29th-ranked doubles pair from Clemson. He emphasized the team's hard work and dedication, stating, "All of their efforts are truly paying off."
But here's where it gets controversial... While the fall season has ended, the team's journey is far from over. Coach Puhan believes they still have a lot to prove and are up for the challenge. He's already looking ahead to the spring season, with a trip to North Carolina on the horizon.
And this is the part most people miss... The Hawks will return to competition in January, facing off against Elon and the defending national champions, Wake Forest. It's a tough road ahead, but with the talent and spirit displayed this fall, Saint Joseph's is poised to make a statement.
